App design examples

Here are some examples of app prototyping we did for customers.

Activity tracking app

Client Idea

Creating a proof of concept app as a jumpboard for a bigger location-based project.

Challenge

The main challenge was to provide the client not only with app-specific sketches and designs but to prepare the entire stylebook and API for easy onboarding of various development teams in the future.

Approach

The assigned Project Manager assembled a workgroup (lead developer, designer, mark-up specialist, QA tester) and drafted a full long-term work scope/roadmap, followed by the production of a proof-of-concept working prototype.

Solution

The prototype was passed into in-house production upon successful live-testing, while the created roadmap was used by other development companies for simultaneous project implementation.

File sharing app

Client Idea

Creating a new file sharing app to bypass inconveniences of other similar options.

Challenge

It was about preparing a working prototype for investor meetings. A classic case of a client with a great and detailed idea, but no skills or means to build it themselves. The challenge was to implement everything exactly the way the client envisioned it.

Approach

Disseminating the idea into an operational workflow and splitting the project into clear stages and iterations, without actually starting development before full investor funding is secured.

Solution

Under the supervision of a project manager, the initial idea was sketched by the design team and a working prototype was deployed into a test environment, which was later shown to investors. The funding was secured and the project moved to the final development stage.

Ride-sharing app

Client Idea

Create a local ride-sharing app with an option to expand in the future.

Challenge

Combining available local options for shared rides into a single app and making it competitive enough on the already saturated market.

Approach

Assigning a design team to conduct research of local end-client preferences, and building a prototype based on their findings.

Solution

The resulting prototype was built with expansion possibilities in mind for the easy addition of extra ride sharing options. Some extra work was spent on making the app more precise and able to communicate on the fly with various time schedules.

Chers Amis

Client Idea

Tweak the standard matchmaking concept to suit popular Japanese trends.

Challenge

Working in an unusual environment to understand the needs of a foreign culture and single out the most appropriate and acceptable concepts for speedy implementation. The client also wanted to see the proposed project fully laid out before committing to the design and coding phases.

Approach

Directly involve the head of the Custom Development Department in the project in order to speed up the gathering of information and to gain a better understanding of specific cultural aspects of the project, and better communicate the final paper-schematics.

Solution

Among many other features, an entirely new matching system was fully created on paper for the client, who was very satisfied with the results. The paper concept was then prototyped and approved before finally being developed into an end product.

Hey Hello

Client Idea

Initially, the client had no specific idea but wanted to start an online marketplace business on a limited budget.

Challenge

Figuring out what would work best for the available budget and with easily obtainable tools at developers’ disposal. Communicating with the client to streamline the process and avoid too much empty talking. Convincing the client to commit to one of the presented options.

Approach

The assigned Project Manager and custom development team head worked in tandem to save time, simultaneously creating optionable prototypes and presenting case-supported arguments in favor of their potential success.

Solution

A number of unique features were researched and prototyped for the client. Accompanying videos were recorded, and special PowerPoint presentations were created to explain the work of the prototypes to the client and their backers.

Post-a-date.com

Client Idea

A fairly straight-forward dating app, but with an option to add additional features later on.

Challenge

No predefined final set of features for the app made it a challenge to provision for future expansion ahead of time.

Approach

The approach was for the design team to create base sketches for later use by the Project Manager to work with the client and set up a roadmap for future implementation of client ideas.

Solution

The base prototype was created and later implemented as an open-end project that could be expanded through the creation of additional plugins for the desktop website and accompanying Progressive Web Apps.
